Resolution 2021-01: CONCERNING ACCESSIBLE PRESCRIPTION LABELS AND ADDITIONAL DRUG INFORMATION

WHEREAS, in the state of California, many pharmacies provide braille prescription labels to blind consumers; and

WHEREAS, when requested, some pharmacists will provide additional drug information in braille to blind consumers; and

WHEREAS, providing braille labels and additional drug information affords the blind consumer independence and safety: now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the National Federation of the Blind of California assembled in virtual convention on the 24th day of October, 2021 that the NATIONAL Federation of the Blind of California commends pharmacies that provide braille prescription labels and additional drug information in Braille to blind consumers; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the National Federation of the Blind of California request that all pharmacies provide braille prescription labels and additional drug information in braille to blind consumers when requested; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the National Federation of the Blind of California stands willing to consult and advise these pharmacies on the needs and best practices for consistently implementing Braille on drug packaging and information sheets.
