Diabetes is the
leading cause of blindness among adult Americans. The Voice of the Diabetic is a
powerful publication for diabetics and for those who have lost vision due to
diabetes. It is a free quarterly publication available in print or on 4-track
cassette tape from the Diabetes Action Network, a
division of the National Federation of the Blind. You can subscribe here or have the
Voice of the Diabetic sent to you via E-mail. In addition, you may find other Resources for the diabetic at the NFB website.
Voice of the Diabetic
is read by people interested in blindness and diabetes. It is an outreach
publication emphasizing proper management of diabetes, a healthy diet, and
independence. Each issue addresses current medical and scientific news as well
as health and nutrition. Options for living with many of the complications of
the disease are also discussed.
We in the Diabetes Action Network believe that blind diabetics
can continue to lead independent, healthy lives, and the Voice of the Diabetic
provides resources and information about special tools and techniques to assist
us in controlling our diabetes independently. Adjustment to blindness is an
important factor in controlling diabetes after a significant loss of vision
occurs. Therefore, each issue of the Voice of the Diabetic also includes
information and encouragement for anyone who is diabetic, blind, or is losing
vision.
