A View from Above

Almaden Research Center
650 Harry Rd. San Jose, CA 95120

ARC, tucked high in the Almaden hills where the ends of Harry and Bernal Roads intersect, is one of IBM's research and development sites, and employs 1,500 people.

Many technological breakthroughs have come from this site, including the eraser head pointing device, the scrolling mouse, and the latest super high density hard drives.

The elegant interior includes maple walls and ceilings, textured tile floors, and observation lounges at the ends of each wing.

The draw-back to this location is that each year, during fire season, the lab is placed at high risk of grass fires. During the last two consecutive summers, the lab had to be evacuated when grass fires forced the closing of both roads and the shut down of the building's ventilation systems.
