All in a Day's Work at IBM San Jose
Believe it or not, all of what you will read in this story happened in one shift. It started about 7 A.M., when Dispatchers Larry Weisshahn and Sid Trujillo received a call about an auto accident at the IBM San Jose site with possible injuries. Security Officer/EMTs Robert Davis and Andrew Nordley responded to the scene while Supervisor/EMT Dan Morino arrived in IBM Ambulance 1.

Our security officers discovered two patients withinjuries and requested a second ambulance from another IBM Site. Security Lead/EMT Mike Gundersen responded code-3 (lights and siren) from the nearby IBM Almaden site in IBM Ambulance 3. Both patients were evaluated, treated, and transported to Santa Teresa Hospital's emergency room.

Imediately after Ambulance 1 cleared from Santa Teresa Hospital, another call came in to dispatch reporting a man whose arm was severely cut by a piece of pipe. APS Fire Technician Jim Chislock was the first to arrive. He found the worker with a deep laceration down to the bone on his forearm. He had lost a substantial amount of blood, had very weak vital signs, and had an

altered level of conciousness. The patient was transported code-3 to Santa Teresa Hospital's emergency room. Thanks to the effective response of Supervisor Morino and Security Officer Davis and the follow-up medical care the worker received, the injured person will have full use of his arm.

As soon as the officers returned from that call, they traveled to the IBM cafeteria, where one of the employees was complaining of a knee injury. This also required transportation to Santa Teresa Hospital's emergency room via IBM Ambulance 1.

Not long after, Security Officer Dennis Johnson notified dispatch that there was a suspicious female who was being uncooperative at the IBM main gate. The police were called and the suspect was taken into custody.

Granted, this was a more active shift than is typical, but it is good to know that no matter what comes our way, we can handle it in a professional and effective manner. Hats off to the entire APS team at IBM!
