Recent Destinations ... Beijing, China

March 2003

We closed down McDonald's in Beijing around the corner from our hotel, and watched the lights wink out on the city street, so we looked and felt our best the next morning when we hit the road for Beijing the bright and early morning after our arrival. Here's Brian on the way to the Ming Tombs.

Brian and friend Jim Barbour at the gateway to the Tomb of the third Ming Emperor, Chang Ling.

One of the many animals guarding the road to the Ming Tomb. This guy's off duty -- see, he's sitting. Across from him (not pictured) is his fellow Lion guard who is on duty.

Armed with fresh batteries for the finicky camera, and a belly full of lunch, we headed for the Great Wall at Badaling.

This section of the wall has been heavily restored.

.

Yep, there's still snow out there, and it was nippy as you climb the hills on the spine of the wall.

Sorta looks like a snake making its way away from the tourists.

What tourist site wouldn't be complete without a little graffiti.

Pal AJ Nordley ponders what to shoot next . . .

An aerial tram makes its way Northwest of the wall . . .

It's a mellow day on the wall, and the weather is perfect when you have a fur coat.
