Happy New Year to all! May your new year’s resolutions bring you good health and happiness.

Braille Challenge
On March 2, 2013 the NFB of California will co-sponsor the “Northern California Braille Challenge”. This year the Braille reading and writing contest will be held at the California School for the Blind in Fremont. We need ten volunteers to assist with proctoring, proofreading, and assisting with braille activities.

Advertising the NFB 2013 Scholarships!
The National Federation of the Blind offers legally blind, full-time college students in the U.S. and Puerto Rico the opportunity to win one of thirty national scholarships worth from $3,000 to $12,000. This is a great opportunity for our youth to participate in the world’s largest assembly of blind persons who are changing what it means to be blind.
In addition to a scholarship, each winner will receive assistance to attend the 2013 National Federation of the Blind Annual Convention in Orlando, Florida held July 1 through 6, 2013. The application deadline is March 31, 2013. For details including eligibility requirements and an application go to the NFB website at https://nfb.org/scholarships.

2013 NFB Writing Contest is now open for Submissions
The Writer’s Division of the NFB is sponsoring a creative writing contest for youth and adults eighteen years and over. The submissions will be judged on quality of braille and creativity. The Youth Writing Contest are to promote Braille literacy and excellence. Winners will receive a monetary award which will be announced and distributed at the business meeting of the writer’s division in Orlando, Florida on July 2, 2013. The deadline is April 1, 2013.
