2011 National Convention – Orlando, Florida
I hope you are all having a great summer. Orlando, Florida was an exceptionally exciting national convention. The weather was for the most part perfect. The hotel was unparalleled. Blind people drove cars. Resolutions were passed, scholarships were given, and Federationism was renewed for three thousand people.

This years Resolutions were designed to spark the development of new technologies, education, and resources that improve access to educational environments, enhance employment opportunities, and create understanding about the real problems of blindness. Congratulations to Mr. Les Stocker, President, Braille Institute of America for receiving one of the four Jacob Bolotin awards.

CABS
On September 24th, California Association of Blind Students, (CABS) will hold a fund-raiser bowl-a-thon. This event will be held in two locations. One in the north and one in the south. Bowlers can print sponsor sheets from our website, www.sixdots.org. under events.

 Scholarships
2011 NFB of California scholarship applications are now available on line. Each year scholarships are awarded to qualified blind college students. If you know a student who is attending college full-time, is legally blind, has a GPA of at least 3.0, and three letters of recommendation, please encourage them to apply by going to www.sixdots.org and click  resources. The deadline is September 15th, 2011.

 2011 State Convention
On October 13-16, 2011, we will hold our annual state convention to discuss and decide significant issues facing the blind in California. The convention will be held at the Hilton Newark/Fremont located at 39900 Balentine Drive, Newark, CA 94560.  Room rates are $85.00 per night plus 10% taxes. The phone number for hotel reservations is 510-490-8390. The deadline for our block of rooms is September 28. There will be a pre-registration form available on www.sixdots.org. Meals and registration will be $85.00 in advance or $100.00 at the door.  Watch the website or affiliate list serve which is

 i-Phone drawing tickets are available. Chapter presidents will receive ten tickets this week. Tickets are $5.00 each. The drawing will be held at the banquet on Saturday, October 15, 2011.

Auction baskets
Many chapters have chosen a theme for a basket which will be auctioned off at the convention. So far, we have a chocolate lovers basket, a technology basket, a Braille basket, spa basket, coffee lovers basket.

Our resident auctioneer, Ever Lee Hairston, will conduct the bidding along with our National representatives Joe Ruffalo. These two experienced auctioneers will ensure that the auction will be lively and entertaining.
