Resolution 2025-02: Defending the Constitutional Rights and Protections of Blind Chicano, Latino, and Hispanic Communities
WHEREAS, federal executive orders have sought to invalidate
birthright citizenship, which directly violate the tenets of the
Constitution as spelled out in the 14th Amendment, and
WHEREAS, the federal government has unfairly increased mass
deportation of undocumented persons, often without due process
of law, affecting many blind documented persons who have
come to the United States to share in the high expectations that
our nation offers for blind people, and
WHEREAS, the federal government has sought to cease funding
for benefits and programs affecting blind persons in historically
marginalized communities, and initiatives, and
WHEREAS, proposed defunding and cancelation of funding for
programs benefiting blind undocumented Latinos will place
them at greater risk of personal harm by depriving them of
essential resources and safety,
WHEREAS, proposed reductions in funding for programs
benefiting blind and undocumented Latinos would have placed
them at greater risk by depriving them of essential resources and
safety,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the National Federation
of the Blind California stands in support of the human rights of
our blind undocumented fellows in the Chicano, Latino and
Hispanic communities, and that we demand the protection and
fair treatment of these populations under the law.
